In the Beginning

I was adopted by my first Belgian "Margo" in 1974 after searching for THE breed starting at age 12. There were many criteria but high on my list were: Intelligence, Personality and Health. My decision on the breed and breeder was finalized after seeing "Rocket" (Ch Laralee’s Rebel Roc o Lorahame CDX Sch I) in the Obedience Ring at a Texas Kennel Club Show when only 19 years old. I was fascinated by this incredibly focused and confident dog. Luck had it that the Belgians hadn’t been yet shown in the Breed Ring. That day, I was lucky enough to watch a large entry of Belgians. The dogs I was attracted to were his offspring. They seemed the most confident and attractive of all the dogs there.  And, they seemed the "showiest" which was something that seemed an important feature after watching Arabian horse shows for years.

During the following months, I also met Rocket’s cousin, "Kelly" ( Ch. Laralee’s Personality CDX Sch I). She was truly a character! And, had the fortune to show "Rocket’s" ½ Sister, Ch Laralee’s Ms-De-Mnr at Coaltree with great success in the US and Canada. Investigations revealed that of many breeders in the United States, the breeders behind these dogs were some of the few performing health checks.  All of these sold me on the breed and these dogs.

Over The Years

I have done my best to keep the "old" lines alive that were behind Rocket, Kelly and Meanor. Their structural soundess, temperament and personality have remained with me while I have incorporated some of the qualities of other more recently known dogs and breeders to increase elegance and refine their style.

Summary and Goals

Breeding:

To produce confident dogs that are sound in mind and body and that have a team player attitude. Dogs willing to please, biddable dogs that have a zest for life. I recognize that there is a breed "type" that must be retained so that the breed will always be readily recognizable while solid structure must be considered for its importance to working ability.   Over the years, the preferred style or "type" has undergone changes and passed through many fashions. A dog that conforms to the standard and is sound should be preferred. These dogs will endure fads. It is important to evaluate dogs or puppies and prospective homes as thoroughly as possible and make a best effort to help create a partnership that will provide life long satisfaction.

The Belgian Sheepdogs can be incredibly expressive and emotionally intense dogs. They are a very clever dog and consideration should be taken before being owned by one of these elegant, handsome and proud dogs. I personally prefer a courageous and confident dog and plan breedings with these qualities in mind.
